Congratulations to Shannon Whyley on King’s Counsel designation

Whyley Legal Counsel & Labour Relations is proud to announce that Shannon Whyley is one of twelve lawyers in Saskatchewan who has been chosen in 2025 to receive the designation of King’s Counsel.

The designation of King’s Counsel is made by the Minister of Justice through a selection process that includes consultation with the Law Society of Saskatchewan, the Canadian Bar Association and the Courts. The selection is based on qualifications such as demonstrated superior legal ability and proof of good character and integrity. Further criteria include a member’s contributions as a legal professional to the community, contributions to the community generally, and contributions to the legal profession.

Shannon is the sole founder and owner of Whyley Legal Counsel & Labour Relations, a firm specializing in union and employee-side labour law. She has been practicing labour and employment law for over 20 years and has a wide variety of experience handling matters and representing clients before various tribunals and Courts in Canada.

On March 5, 2026, Shannon attended the King’s Counsel Induction Ceremony and reception in Regina, honouring the inductees.

“I am incredibly honoured to be recognized within the legal profession through this longstanding tradition,” says Shannon. Reflecting on the important role that lawyers play in maintaining the integrity of our institutions and the stability of the rule of law during such a period of intense challenge, she continues: “It means something to put in all those years of effort – working together with my peers – to build a career which fulfills an important function in our society and to know that such efforts have not gone unnoticed.”

Shannon would like to express her gratitude for the support of her mentors, colleagues, and family over the years, particularly her husband Michael, her children, Sebastian and Eloise, and her parents, Don and Eleanor, and brother, Ryan.

Whyley Legal extends its utmost congratulations to Shannon as well as the other 11 esteemed members of the Saskatchewan Bar who received their designations.
